Tyler Field Information
Tyler Field Information

For many years Lebanon CT Little League (LCLL) has been actively pursuing, with the help and support of our Recreation Commission and our Selectmen, new fields for youth softball and baseball.  Lebanon CT Little League has about 75% of our fundraising goal of $100,000.

The need for new fields really became evident when our league expanded over recent years by nearly one hundred players.   The current two fields were built to accommodate 50 players.  We have been holding a steady enrollment of around 300 participants.

Last year our older boys (9 and 10 year old division and 11 and 12 year old division) lost two games per team off their schedule – as no field space is available. The boys are now playing the minimum number of games required by Williamsport Little League. The team rosters are at their limits.     More players means additional teams.  Additional teams means more scheduled games and practices---all on space that we do not have.  This past season, we were only able to schedule a limited amount of practices for each team.  Many teams had only four or five practices schedule for the WHOLE SEASON!!!!   We have even had our teams travel out of town to get practice space that other towns have generously offered as even they are aware of our field issues in Lebanon.  This is no way to run a program, but we have no choice until we have additional fields.

In addition, our female athletes lost their softball field in the Aspinall Park area (due to Elementary School expansion a few years ago).   There was no contingency put into place for replacement of that field during the planning stages of this expansion project.  Thus, our softball players now have no regulation or dedicated field that is part of our current Little League complex.  Their only option is to play at the middle school field or the high school field when the fields are not being used by school teams.  These fields are separate from the Little League atmosphere where community and comraderie are key elements in our community recreation program.   This past spring, I was watching the games at Aspinall field waiting to meet up with one of our veteran softball coaches.  The park was filled with families and visitors from six different teams.  Concessions were open for spectators to enjoy our very popular steamed hotdogs, and music and announcements could be heard from our newly installed PA system between innings.   It had been some time since this softball coach had been down to the park as he has had to use the school fields for years.  As he looked around, he made remarks how he had forgotten what is supposed to be like, how unfortunate that our girls are not able to play in the same place, to be part of the same experience that the baseball players have....This needs to be changed.  Our female athletes are entitled to the same opportunities as the male athletes...Help us get back what they lost.
Our new field initiative will result in three new fields. A dedicated softball field, a dedicated baseball field, and a multi-use field – softball, minors, and tee-ball use.

With your help we can expand opportunities for games and for practice for our children and for future generations! We can only provide these opportunities, however, with your help. Many of us pursuing this initiative have children that are graduates of LCLL’s program or are in the older age groups. We need an influx of talent and dedication from the parents of our younger players to see this project through to fruition. Let us know if you can become involved.

A copy of our fully approved plan for Tyler Field can be viewed here.

In addition to becoming involved, everyone can be of assistance. See the back of page for ways you can help! Please also visit our website: http://www.lebanonctlittleleague.com/ for more information about the league or, please attend our monthly meetings - held on the second Monday of every month at 7pm (7:30 in season - April, May and June), downstairs at the Town Hall.

How You can Help

United Way Contributions:

Please consider directing all or a portion of your contribution to Lebanon CT Little League – see Flyer attached:

Hartford United Way (including Windham) Designation Code: AG 8094

Southeastern Connecticut United Way Designation Code: 3526

Please contact us if your employer’s United Way affiliate does not list Lebanon CT Little League. We’ll fix that quickly.

Who do you know:

We have contacted many of the local businesses requesting their help. As you know, however, these few businesses are constantly contacted by Lebanon fundraisers in addressing the needs of our community. The generosity of local businesses can only accomplish so much. It is time to reach beyond our borders and to seek monetary assistance from our state’s largest employers. Many of these large employers, in addition to matching United Way contributions as above, also have programs to reward their employees who donate their time to a non-profit cause – like Lebanon CT Little League (LCLL). For example, the Aetna makes a $300.00 per volunteer donation.

Do you or other parents on your team volunteer your time to LCLL. Do you work at a large corporation? Maybe they have a similar program. Please check it out.

Also, do you know any entities that might wish to donate to our new fields initiative? We are looking for leads and assistance regarding any such entities, for example anyone who loves baseball/softball, anyone who supports youth sports, anyone who supports greater opportunities for our female players (who are currently without a dedicated or regulation field).

We have spent countless hours in pursuit of funding. We need your fresh ideas, enthusiasm and assistance for the benefit of our children and town.

Feel free to contact our League President Jamie Bender (jamiebenz@charter.net) , or our New Fields Coordinator Jeff Walsh (jtwesqsox8@yahoo.com), with ideas, opportunities and questions. Please also visit our website: http://www.lebanonctlittleleague.com/ for more information about the league or, please attend our monthly meetings - held on the second Monday of every month at 7pm (7:30 in season - April, May and June), downstairs at the Town Hall.
